MindTree: A Community of Communities Case Answers
The company MindTree, which was started by ten IT experts in August 1999, was a mid-sized IT consulting ﬁrm in India that provided key services in the networking domain: business consultation, enterprise front implementation, and product realization.
IT services, knowledge services, R&D services, testing, infrastructure management & technical support, software product engineering, and wireless devices were all launched in 2010.
MindTree stands out among the many mid-sized IT ﬁrms by emphasizing its culture and values as a major distinction. C-L-A-S-S (Caring, Learning, Achieving, Sharing, and Social Responsibility) was designed as a business value system. It is now an intrinsic element of the ﬁrm’s recruiting, recognition, and reward system.
This workforce reﬂects a high-caring, high-achieving organization with emotionally connected workers. It reduced employee turnover and instilled a sense of belonging among the employees.
A well-informed staff, as well as a clear communication approach, inclusive decision-making, and a gardener program to foster emerging talent, contribute to the company’s success as a vital force for both new and current workers. To enable the free ﬂow of ideas among the workforce, MindTree encourages the formation of numerous informal groups for knowledge management.
Each community has a unique domain or area of expertise to share. Every day, three to four communities out of the 55 established must prepare an event, requiring 75 percent of the whole workforce to participate in some way.
